Celebrate National Coin Week April 17-23.
National Coin Week began to help people understand numismatics. Numismatics is the study and hobby of collecting coins and currency. The theme for 2011 is “Blue, Gray and Greenbacks” which will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
The President of the United States designated the third week in April as National Coin Week. The event is now in its 88th year. Collecting coins is a great way to learn about history, geography and math.
The Indian Cent was minted during the Civil War, displaying the Liberty wearing a feather head dress. It was designed by James Barton Longacre.
