Camelot

Did you know that President John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953?

JFK first met Jackie in 1951 through mutual friends, he was a congressman and she a reporter.  They began dating and in 1953, JFK proposed with a diamond and emerald engagement ring.  The couple was married at St. Mary’s Church in Newport, Rhode Island. There were about 750 guests in attendance.

The couple had two children Caroline born in 1957 and John Jr. in 1960.  JFK took office in 1961 and thus the first lady and president began their reign in the White House known as Camelot.  American “royalty”, the couple displayed style and elegance.  Jackie was the youngest first lady to live in the White House and while there she made significant changes. Invitations went out to artists, actors, musicians and writers.  Together the President and First Lady brought culture and grace into American politics.
