Germany invaded France and captured Paris which lead FDR to accept the nomination for President of United States on July 18, 1940. Franklin D. Roosevelt won the election and began his third term in office.
FDR thought it was his duty to lead the United States during the European crisis. By the year’s end he told Americans, ‘We must be the great arsenal of democracy.” His State of the Union Speech contained the following quote, ‘Our strength is our unity of purpose. To that high concept there can be no end save victory.”
